Hello guys! how are you? Today I want to share with you guys about my macrame's idol that I really admire. I'll explain a little bit about her biography. Her name is Sally England. She is an American fiber artist is known as one of the trail blazers in contemporary macrame and currently living and working in Ojai, California. Raised in the Midwest, she received her BA in Communication Arts from Grand Valley State University in West Michigan, and later attended PNCA's Applied Craft & Design MFA program in Portland, Oregon. During her time in graduate school in 2011 she was inspired to further her work in soft sculpture and explore a new form of macramé (knot-based textile construction) for who we are today. Her ensuing large-scale modern macramé work using thick cotton rope became a catalyst for the recent revival of the craft, inspiring many to learn or relearn the art of knotting. Her fiber-based installations and hangings have been presented in exhibitions and environments in the U.S and abroad, as well as in numerous online and print journals. In 2016 she had her first solo exhibition at The Grand Rapids Art Museum, titled ‘New Knots.’
For me she is really amazing because of her macrame's size is so huge. i don't know how much time she can take to finish her macrame but I bet she can do fast. I found one article about her in C Magazine website which is the title is "Studio Tour: Weaving Our Way Through Artist Sally England's Ojai Barn". Since I can't interview her obviously because too far, I just google it to know her more. Based on the C Magazine post, Sally England likes to work with the barn doors wide open, hanging large loops of thick cotton rope from the curtain rod above the entry, twisting and knotting the material into modern sculpture while the warm breeze and the sounds of Ojai fill her studio. Sally England a Michigan native who relocated to California more than two years ago said “I always dreamed of living and working in a place like this.” “I feel such a strong connection to nature and I was so drawn by the weather. One circumstance or another kept me from moving here over the years. Now, I’m never leaving.”
This is her amazing Macrame's work that i really love!
