Hello my beloved readers ! Macrame is an art form that has been around for some time. There are a few different types of knot that I want to share here!

  • Larkshead Knot

  • Half Hitch Knot

  • Square Knot

  • Vertical Half Hitch

  • Diagonal Half Hitch

LARKSHEAD HITCH KNOT

This knot is most often used for attaching a piece of rope to a base rod or handle.

  1. Fold the rope or string in half, then, using the mid-point of the rope, create the loop around the rod or handle and thread the tail ends into the loop before tightening it.

  2. Be mindful that the knot will look different depending on which direction you thread the loop through.

HALF KNOT

Half Hitch Knot worked with four cords. The two outer cords are the knotting cords and the two middle cords are the knot-bearing cords.

SQUARE KNOT

The Square Knot is a continuation of the Half Hitch Knot. (The "half" refers to "half of the square".) So the first part of the knot just like a half knot then finish the square by working another half knot using the opposite cords.

VERTICAL HALF HITCH

There are several variations of the Half Hitch Knot. This shows a Vertical Half Hitch worked with two cords, using the left cord as the knotting cord and the right cord as the knot-bearing cord.

DIAGONAL HALF HITCH

DIAGONAL HALF HITCH

The Diagonal Half Hitch is similar to the Horizontal Half Hitch mentioned above. The difference is the knot-bearing cord is pinned diagonally before the stitches are worked.
